Last night the Metro was taken over by D.C.’s GoldLink and Virginia’s Masego. The venue was almost immediately packed as doors opened, the stage dressed with foliage and a backdrop of freight containers. As the crowd filled in, you could hear whispers of which song GoldLink would be playing. There was a lot of talk of Masego and his incredible live performances, and as he took the stage at 7:45, the night began.
After a short DJ set, Masego emerged to perform Shut Up and Groove off his Pink Polo EP. The room immediately started moving, not a body stood still as Masego’s entrancing groovy productions filled the room. A few songs into the set, Masego introduced the song You Gon’ Learn Some Jazz Today and reached for his saxophone. Bringing a new level to the show, Masego serenaded Metro Chicago with an incredible solo.
With a massive smile on his face, Masego thanked Chicago for all the support. Ending his set with I Like Girls That Dance to which Metro Chicago sang along to every word. An overall phenomenal musician, Masego put on one hell of a live performance.
The crowd anxiously awaited for GoldLink to take the stage. As the clock approached nine, the lights dimmed and GoldLink’s DJ AtWhatCost took his spot. Opening with a short DJ set, the lights were cut and the crowd began chanting for the man himself to come to the stage. GoldLink emerged with incredible energy, the room shook with excitement.
GoldLink whilst performing his song Meditation (feat. Jazmine Sullivan & Kaytranada)let the crowd sing Jazmine’s chorus – an incredible showing of fan dedication. Performing songs both new and old, GoldLink had command of the audience. Song’s such as We Will Never Die shook the floors of Metro Chicago. GoldLink was joined on stage for Late Night, a track with Masego, a once in a lifetime chance to see performed together.
Ending the night with Crew, GoldLink thanked Chicago again before heading off the stage, leaving Metro Chicago awestruck and clamoring for more. An overall impeccable show, GoldLink & Masego will continue on tour for six more dates on the At What Cost Tour.
