Singer-songwriter Kali Uchis released her newest single, “After the Storm,” off her latest upcoming debut album set to release this spring. The funky, BADBADNOTGOOD produced track features Parliament-Funkadelic legend, Bootsy Collins and Tyler, The Creator. I’ve had this song on repeat ever since it came out and it made me even more excited knowing that I had the opportunity to shoot and witness the young musical legend in action a day after the new single’s release.

Kaina Castillo opened the show with a forty minute performance that was uplifting and empowering. Her positive vibes spread across the hall and her band brought sounds that were soulful and groovy. She didn’t hesitate to let the crowd know that she was proud to be a native of Chicago and that she would support and stand alongside minorities. Kaina wrapped her performance by hyping up the audience and having them chant “honey won’t you come my way” to prepare for main event to emerge upon the stage.

As soon as Kali Uchis took the stage, Concord Hall was filled with the screams of fans who absolutely adored the Colombian songstress. Performing with her new band for the first time, she began hits off her debut EP, “Por Vida”. The crowd knew every lyric and Kali moved to her music with a sensual way that was nothing sort of hypnotizing. Unexpected, but more than welcomed, she then proceeded to perform a cover of Al Green’s lifetime masterpiece, “Let’s Stay Together”. She fulfilled our dream and performed her new single live for the first time. I can’t think of a better way to kick off the New Year then by seeing one of my favorite artists of all time. She took Concord Music Hall to a sensual galaxy far, far away.
