A little after 7am inside Turn 3 in front of more than 400,000 race fans, Danica Patrick is getting ready for her final race of her career at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Over 30,000 people gather to have some fun with Griz, Diplo, Axwell Λ Ingrosso and Deadmau5 at the annual Indy 500 Snake Pit.
Griz set proved that anyone can enjoy electronic dance music — that you don’t even have to realize it’s electronic dance music. Griz bopped up and down, breaking here and there to vibe of his guitarist, fellow producer Muzzy Bear. His set featured a complex juxtaposition of genre-bending sounds and samples, and though it does Griz too little justice, it can’t be denied that his music is the apex of remix culture.
The extent of Diplo’s production credits will blow your mind. He’s arguably the most diverse, multi-dimensional producers in the world having worked with everyone from Beyoncé to Lil Wayne. Diplo set was about an hour of genre-hopping, remixed cacophony of fun. Diplo, a worldwide name to the scene of electronic and dance music showed what he’s shaped and what he is still capable of even if he’s 39.
After a moment to honor our military, the singing of the National Anthem sang by Kelly Clarkson, and to officially begin the Indy 500 race. Joel Zimmerman or better known as Deadmau5 takes the stage. He emerges the stage with his signature helmet in race form. After a few minutes technical glitches begin due the heat. With laptops over heating, tents, and memes being thrown by Deadmau5 he begins his set again. Deadmau5 transitioned his tracks between hard electro, house, and even dubstep. The audio transitions felt natural, with new material fitting in alongside the more classic tracks. Even with all the technical glitches Deadmau5 created a highly memorable performance.
At this point everyone is anticipating the arrival of Axwell Λ Ingrosso. After 6-7 minutes they emerge with smiles as they absorb the energy from the audience they begin. They took the audience on a journey sharing the best of current tracks and a decent amount of IDs. With electronic music taking over the world in the past few years. It is very difficult to stand out, to surpass someone else. The biggest challenge is to overcome yourself. And these 2 – they’ve mastered the art.
If you aren’t a racing fan, I recommend you come to Indiana and check out the greatest spectacle in sports. Snake Pit it’s a unique atmosphere that you won’t really get to experience anywhere else.
