Pearl Jam announced as ambassadors for Record Store Day 2019

Pearl Jam will serve as ambassadors for this year’s Record Store Day event, which takes place Saturday, April 13. In a statement announcing the news, Record Store Day co-founder/organizer Carrie Colliton said “I’ve worked in and around record stores for my entire adult life and feel like I’ve grown up with Pearl Jam because of it. My early, early advance copy of Ten came with me on a free-ranging trek through Europe at an impressionable age, some of my craziest and best midnight sales were for Pearl Jam albums, and any one of their songs makes me think of my favorite record store co-workers. This Ambassadorship is a natural fit– a band that stays true to themselves and the people who love them, and a form of retail that does pretty much the same thing.”

Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCreedy released his own statement saying “Independent record stores are hugely important to me, and have been ever since I was 12 years-old. Before I even really knew what they were — there was a certain feeling of ‘this is a dream come true,’ and it’s a wonderland and there’s so much to learn in here… and it’s still that way.”

Now that the ambassadors have been named, it shouldn’t be too long until we hear about this year’s exclusive releases.

21 Savage Released From Immigration Custody

After two weeks in custody, 21 Savage has been released on bond pending a deportation hearing, according to TMZ. The rapper, born Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joespeh, was arrested earlier this month by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). 21 Savage’s lawyers, Charles H. Kuck, Dina LaPolt, and Alex Spiro, shared the news in a statement posted to Facebook on Tuesday saying “he won his freedom.”

“21 Savage asked us to send a special message to his fans and supporters — he says that while he wasn’t present at the Grammy Awards, he was there in spirit and is grateful for the support from around the world and is more than ever, ready to be with his loved ones and continue making music that brings people together.”

In conclusion they write, “He will not forget this ordeal or any of the other fathers, sons, family members, and faceless people, he was locked up with or that remain unjustly incarcerated across the country. And he asks for your hearts and minds to be with them.”

An ICE spokesperson alleged the rapper to be a “United Kingdom national” who “initially entered the US legally in July 2005, but subsequently failed to depart under the terms of his nonimmigrant visa.” 21 Savage’s lawyers argued that he lost his legal status in 2006 “through no fault of his own” and applied for a visa in 2017 when he learned he was in the country illegally. After the arrest, the lawyers questioned the legality of his detainment, saying he was not subject to mandatory detention under federal law and was entitled to bond.
