XXXTentacion dies after shooting at 20

Last week, rapper XXXTentacion was shot and killed outside a South Florida shopping center on Monday (June 18). He was 20 years old. Police think the rapper may have been a victim of a drive-by shooting. According to reports, a Louis Vuitton bag was taken was from his vehicle. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Two days later suspect Dedrick Devonshay Williams was arrested and charged with first-degree murder of the rapper.

XXXTentacion (Jahseh Onfroy) grew popular thanks to his music on SoundCloud. He later signed a multi-million dollar record contract with Capitol Records. He released his debut album, 17, last year followed by his sophomore album, ?, six months later. The LP went straight to number 1 on the charts with his single “Sad!” peaking at number 7 on the Billboard 100.

He garnered plenty of controversy during his rise to fame. In 2016, he was charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery, false imprisonment, and witness tampering. He’s also faced charges relating to gun possession, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon. These issues made him one of the first musicians to get his music removed under Spotify’s Hateful Content Policy. His catalog was later reinstated.

Shortly after his death, the GoFundMe page set up by the rapper’s alleged assault victim received a flood of donations. The campaign is to help cover medical and hospital bills. Donate here.

Paul McCartney announces new album, ‘Egypt Station,’ and shares double A-side

Sir Paul McCartney is treating us to new music this year and he’s already given us a taste of what’s to come. Last week, McCartney shared the double A-side single featuring “I Don’t Know” and “Come On To Me,” which you can listen to above. Both songs come from his upcoming 17th solo album, Egypt Station, out September 7 via Capitol Records.

This marks McCartney’s first new album since 2013’s New. Speaking about the new LP, McCartney said in a statement “Egypt Station starts off at the station on the first song and then each song is like a different location. Chicago Artist Spotlight: GIRL K

You may have seen Chicago native Kathy Patino around the open mic circuit last year under the name Girl K. It began as her solo project and weeks before she released her solo debut, Sunflower Court, Girl K turned into a full band. Now the group features Jake Theimer (bass), Mike Wolz (guitar), and Tyler Pacheco (drums). They recently released their latest single, “Division Club” along with its quirky music video.

This new track has a sleepy, mellow sound that reminds you of early 90s alt-rock. The music is hypnotic and Patino’s relaxing vocals are enough to put you in a trace. Listen to it above. So far, there’s no word on whether or not this is from an upcoming album, but let’s hope there’s more music to come. Catch Girl K live at Subterranean with Hala, BOYO and The Hazy Seas on June 26. Make sure to follow them on Facebook and Twitter and check out their Bandcamp for more music.
