On the Radar: Ozzfest Returns, Slipknot Announce European Tour, Ariana Grande 2019 Tour + More

This week’s edition of On the Radar brings you all the details you need for Ariana Grande’s 2019 tour, where you can get Ozzfest tickets, and what shows are happening this weekend. All that and more On the Radar.

Ozzy Osbourne’s Ozzfest returns for one-off New Year’s Eve performance

Ozzfest is back but for one night only. Ozzy Osbourne revealed he will headline an Ozzfest New Year’s Eve show at The Forum in Los Angeles, December 31. The show will also feature performances from Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Korn’s Johnathan Davis, and Body Count featuring Ice-T. Playing the stage will be Wednesday 13, Zakk Sabbath, and Devildriver. The event will also feature an outdoor stage and other holiday-themed activities.

“I asked Sharon what we’re doing this New Year’s Eve and she said, ‘WE’RE DOING FUCK ALL!” said Ozzy in a statement. “So I thought, ‘We didn’t do Ozzfest in 2018, so let’s do a New Year’s Eve Ozzfest.’”

Sharon added, “What better way to celebrate New Year’s Eve than with some of the greatest performers in this genre and our longtime friends Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Jonathan Davis and Ice T.”

Ariana Grande announces 2019 North American tour

Ariana Grande is heading out on tour once again. She recently announced the first leg of her world tour in support of her new album, Sweetener. The North American leg of The Sweetener World Tour kicks off March 18 in Albany, NY and will wrap up June 18 in New York. Grande will swing by Chicago to play the United Center April 7. A pre-sale for American Express Card Members starts Thursday, November 1 through Saturday, November 3. Find all the announced dates here.

The news comes after a fan on Twitter asked: “are you giving us dates tomorrow.” On October 24. Grande replied, “yea tbh.” She also wrote to a fan on Twitter saying that she was emotionally “ready” to get back to touring and dates would be coming soon.

Additional dates and international shows will be announced at a later date.

Slipknot to Embark on European Tour

In 2019 Slipknot will return in a big way. Not only will they release a new album, according to Corey Taylor, they’ll also embark on a European tour. The month-long trek features stops at various festivals, including Download, Rock Am Ring, Resurrection, and Graspop Metal Meeting. The tour kicks off June 7 with their set at Rockfest in Finland and wraps up July 4 at the Resurrection Festival in Spain.

Alongside Slipknot, Tool and Def Leppard will headline Download Festival in the UK. Speaking to Kerrang about their headline spot, Shawn “Clown” Crahan said “If someone chooses to come and see us, they’re going to get us. I don’t care about the day before, and I don’t care about the day after! One thing I know about Slipknot is that it’s impossible to not talk about us, so I really don’t get caught up in competition — I’m here to kick you in the face and make you remember it. End of story. I don’t know what Tool is doing, and I don’t fucking care. I wanna hear their new album, but if I’m out playing, I don’t care what they’re doing, and they don’t care what I’m doing. But I’m gonna kick you in the face.”

The band will also perform at the Iowa State Fair Grandstand for the time ever on August 10, 2019. Tickets are on sale now. Pick them up here. So far, an opening act has yet to be announced.

Chicago Artist Spotlight: Absolutely Not

Last year, Chicago punks Absolutely Not released their album Errors after spending time releasing various EPs. Featuring Donnie Moore, Madison Moore, Santiago Guerrero, and Chris Sutter, the band tackles social and political issues with bratty punk, a heavy dose of camp, and twisted sense of humor. Their spastic music takes you back to the days of 80s new wave and glitter punk and it’s ridiculously fun.

Now, the punks are back with a brand new single just in time for Halloween. “Medicine Man” is about “two drug-addicted Goth kids” according to singer Donnie Moore. It was originally released on cassette for a limited time but has grown into one of their staples and felt it deserved a re-release. The song is full of adrenaline and Moore’s frantic vocals remind you of Danny Elfman’s Oingo Boingo days. It’s the perfect track to celebrate the things that go bump in the night. Check out the song above. Catch Absolutely Not live at Lincoln Hall with Mucca Pazza and Fuzzbox DJs for a New Year’s Eve show on December 31. Get tickets here.
