It’s a beautiful warm Thursday night in Chicago and TDE’s Kendrick Lamar is set to grace the stage at the Riviera Theatre. Before KDot took the stage his fellow TDE member Jay Rock warmed the crowd up by performing songs from his new album 90059 and Follow Me Home. Jay finished his 30min set and asked TDE fans if they were ready to see KDOT and of course fans went crazy! Kendrick Lamar took the stage as the crowd erupted, he went to grab the mic and then back up as the crowd screamed louder. Kendrick’s pose behind the microphone reminded me of a preacher speaking to his loyal congregation. KDot started his set with his song For Sale and This Dick Ain’t Free from To Pimp A Butterfly. His 90min set was exactly what the crowd wanted as they chanted and recited every lyric KDot preached from the stage. KDot always refers to Chicago as holding a special place in his heart with him spending a lot of time on the Eastside. With his deep ties to Chicago it was only right that his band were hometown guys, Tony “Chicago” Russell (Bass), Freaky Rob (Guitar) and Rico (Drums). KDot closed out his set with I Love Myself and an encore performance of We Gon’ Be Alright. If you have been living under a rock Kendrick Lamar is definitely an artist to keep your eye on.
