Last night Concord Music Hall hosted the trap group Keys N Krates. Keys N Krates boast a unique set up for a live show in the EDM genre. Their new tour Midnite Mass which is also the name of their new EP which was released on Dim Mak on January 15. The night had music for everyone from Jesse Slayter, Stooki Sound, and the opener of the night Zebo.
Zebo who is a resident of Chicago is proved once again that he is one of the most talented local DJs. Zebo had the dance floor filled up early playing deep house, trap, and some g-house tracks. I have seen Zebo several times and I have never seen two sets that were even remotely the same. His sound is one of confidence and controlled frenzy he is on his way to become one of the top DJs.
Jesse Slayter may not be a name that catches your eye right away but last night people finally found out who he was. His set was exquisitely well crafted playing mid-tempo then switching between trap, mb influenced beats, and some moombah madness. As a person who saw something special early-on in his career I’m glad that he has grown and he is only going up.
When you combine bass tunes with downright hip-hop personality you get Stooki Sound. DJ Lukey and Jelacee have been blowing up the trap scene and last night proved the kind of power these two guys have. The beats started dropping and everyone there was having a turn up kind of night. The chemistry between these two is something to see as they take turns behind the decks and on the mic they never missed a beat. It was by far one of Stooki Sounds sets I have seen in a while.
Following a steady stream of singles and EP’s over the last couple years Toronto trio Keys N Krates blessed the stage with their energetic live set. Adam (Drummer), David (Keys), and Greg AKA Jr. Flo (Turntables) made sure that you didn’t leave a night with no regrets. They played tracks of their new EP “Mightnite Mass” and some of their hits like “Keep it 100”. By the end of the night all the opening acts gathered on stage and interacted with the crowd. If anyone tells you trap is dead just take them to a Keys N Krates show and have them feel the energy of the room.
