Hip-hop icons Ice Cube and Common will be teaming up with VH1 for a community town hall special entitled: Behind The Movie: Exploring Chicago with the cast of “Barbershop: the Next Cut,” in support of the next installment of the “Barbershop” film franchise, which details the story of a neighborhood barbershop in the south-side of Chicago.
The special will spotlight a variety of issues that young people are facing across the country ranging from relationships and artistic expression to gun violence, and the importance of barbershops to community activism. Common and Ice Cube along with VH1’s Sway Calloway will lead a dialogue with local college students and grassroots organizers, most of whom have been impacted personally by gun violence. The stars will also be visiting a local barbershop and other south-side locations to discuss the various challenges that come with living in the city.
Other panelists include Liz Dozier, former Fenger High School principal featured in CNN’s “Chicagoland,” Ryan Henry, from “Black Ink Crew: Chicago,” and Vic Mensa, a hip-hop artist and Chicago native. The stars of the new film “Barbershop: The Next Cut” will also be present, including Anthony Anderson, Cedric The Entertainer, Deon Cole, Regina Hall, Eve, and Nicki Minaj.
On the special, Ice Cube says:
“It is important to me that ‘Barbershop’ does more than entertain. Along with comedy, the story touches on relationships and gang violence. This partnership with VH1 is the perfect way to expand the conversation.”
“Behind the Movie: Exploring Chicago with the Cast of Barbershop: The Next Cut” premieres Monday, April 11th at 10 PM on VH1.
