After years of promotion and perfecting, David Banner has officially released, The God Box. A socially charged album filled with black love and rage and speaking for the frustrated in today’s “AmeriKKA”. The message is clear from start to finish. David Banner wants to make America as uncomfortable as the black delegation has been for centuries. The best woke word to use is “unapologetic” for this album. Although it’s cliche, it is accurate. David Banner has a lot to say. Some of it you may not like. What you must remember is this. He doesn’t give a f**k! David Banner is using The God Box to take back everything Black America has created. It’s up to the listeners to take it how they want. And you’re going to take. Period.
David Banner’s The God Box is laced with cinematic and head nodding production and accompanied by stinging rhymes. He recruits Trinidad James for “Amy”. A song that is definitely a highlight on David Banner’s The God Box. It’s a play on “Ni**as vs Gods” David Banner also pays homage to the black woman and black love on songs like “Cleopatra Jones” and “Marry Me”.
“Elvis” is a song that Banner pushed heavy for it’s content. In 2017 some of the content may be ill timed, but the song still has bang potential. You may not learn anything new, but it’s all facts on display.
One of the unexpected gems on David Banner’s God Box Album is “Traffic on Mars”. It’s a track with a trap and rock feel. “Watch The Duck” appears alongside Kap G, Tim Wise and Kenya Jori. It may be the perfect song to get high to and really start to think. What will you be thinking about? That I can’t help you with, but hey. It’s all possible.
My Uzi with Big K.R.I.T should be a Mississippi anthem, along with Black Fist with Tito Lo. One thing about this album is David Banner reps his roots. Mississippi is represented throughout the God Box album and in great fashion.
During the promotion, which has now spanned about 3 solid years. David Banner is on record saying that this album would be classic. He also said that others in the industry told him “If any other artist dropped this album. It would be considered one of the best ever.” Whether you agree with that or not remains to be seen. One thing is for sure. The God Box is a very dope album. With the way news and music moves some of the lyrics may come across as “dated”, but that doesn’t mean it’s not good. Get your ears on The God Box. Respect to David Banner.
